Mini Series, Day 2 of 6, Mission San Rafael
In 1817 Father Luis Gil established the Mission San Rafael which became the first sanitarium in California and administered to Native Americans stricken with the diseases brought by white men. Despite the efforts scores of Indians died and were buried here in unmarked graves. Today, the apparition of a lone hooded figure, thought to be Father Gil, can be seen walking through the mission. Often he passes through walls or floats along hallways, sometimes accompanied by the muted moans of the sick and dying natives he still attends to.
