Snacking Squirrel, Buena Vista Park
Edging the Haight District, Buena Vista Park is the oldest official park in San Francisco. The park covers 37 acres, rests on a steep hill that rises more than 585 feet, and offers excellent views of the city. The paths along the west side are lined with gutters built by WPA workers out of broken headstones from the city's relocated Victorian cemeteries, in a few cases the inscriptions can still be discerned. A delightful recreational spot during the day, the park's thick foliage and secluded pathways, have given the park a reputation for being the site of frequent and dubious nighttime encounters and activities.
