Spreckels Mansion, Pacific Heights
The Spreckels Mansion occupies an entire massive block in the ultra-exclusive Pacific Heights neighborhood. In the early 1900s Adolph Spreckels controlled all the sugar west of the Mississippi and built this home for himself and his wife Alma. The white limestone mansion was constructed in 1913 and boasts 55 rooms, 26 bathrooms, a Louis XVI ballroom, and the largest private indoor swimming pool in the country. In 1990 the mansion was purchased by author Danielle Steel.
