Mifune, Japantown
Every once in a while I like to highlight a favorite restaurant of mine in San Francisco that might not normally get featured in visitor guidebooks. Today that restaurant is Mifune noodle house in Japantown's Kintetsu Mall. Mifune, meaning three ships, has been serving Japanese comfort food here for over thirty years, specializing in their traditional "90 year old recipes" of udon and soba noodles, served hot or cold. Favorites include Kitsune, noodles and broth with fried tofu and Nabe Yaki-Udon, a hot-bowl with seafood and vegetables cooked metal pot. The popular Mifune has open a second restaurant in the nearby Peace Plaza featuring ramen noodle dishes. For true Japanese politeness, begin your meal with an "Itadakimasu!" (I accept with thanks) and end with a "Go chiso-sama deshita!" (It was a feast).
