Mini Series, Japantown Children's Day, Day 1 of 2
One week ago Saturday San Francisco's Japanese-American community observed Kodomo no Hi (Children's Day), one of the most popular national holidays in Japan. It is a day set aside to respect children's personalities and to celebrate their happiness. The 2008 Kristi Yamaguchi's Children's Day Festival took place in front of the Peace Pagoda in Japantown. The event featured children performing traditional and non-traditional dance and music. The ABC Preschool pictured above was started by Japanese businessmen and women working in San Francisco who wanted a bilingual multicultural school for their children to attend.
