Chinatown Butcher Delivery
Not a very good photo today. I captured this shot through my car's windscreen as I was driving through Chinatown. It shows a rather horrific-looking meat delivery. I'm not sure what these big stacked carcasses are – veal, goat? That hoof sticking out at the top might provide a clue but unfortunately I couldn't find a parking spot so the mystery remains. A walk along Chinatown's Stockton Street markets can offer some surprising food options such as armadillo or conger eel. But not all the unusual animal items are found in grocery stores. A few years ago the California Department of Fish and Game raided the Yau Hing Pharmacy and confiscated bear gall bladders, shark tails, rhino horns, deer antlers, and tiger penises. These items are as highly sought for their curative powers as they are illegal.
