A Copper Dawn Over San Francisco
The waves of Northern California might be providing more than beautiful views soon. The San Francisco-based energy company, PG&E just announced plans to build nation's first commercial wave power plant off the Eureka coast in Northern California, in an effort to help combat global warming. The wave park will be made up of eight long, cylindrical buoys, two and a half miles offshore, generating power as they rise and fall on the ocean surface. The motion drives a pump that forces seawater through a turbine which generates electricity. The wave park will be the first in America, providing power to customers starting in 2012.
