Public Marching Band, Delores Park
About 1 PM last Sunday in Delores Park a 'Public Marching Band' flash mob quickly assembled. The online announcement of the event simply stated, "1. Bring an instrument, 2. Bring a hat." At the predetermined time and location about fifty strangers, (some more than others) showed up, marched through the park playing their various instruments, and just as quickly dispersed. Equal parts performance art, public prank and social get-together, flash mobs are common events in San Francisco and can range from simulated zombie attacks on Union Square tourists to huge public games of 'duck, duck, goose.' If you're interested in joining or starting a flash mob, sites such as FlockSmart are a good place to start.
