OK, here are the numbers; there are 850 miles of streets in San Francisco, the oldest street is Grant Avenue, the longest is Mission (7.29 miles), the shortest is Charlestown Place (142 feet), the widest is Sloat Blvd. (135 feet), the narrowest is De Forest Way (4.5 feet), and the steepest is Filbert Street (31.5% grade). Many of San Francisco's streets, especially near downtown, are built on landfill that used to be the Bay. In addition, a number of streets that appear on old maps are now underwater. A local joke is to suggest meeting someone at the corner of India and Contra Costa, an address that is now completely submerged. Want to sound like a local?
