Morning Row, Marin County
A common sight every morning is crew boats gliding past commuter cars, along the waterways of Marin County. The 40-year-old Marin Rowing Association started as a program for local high school boys and was run by Olympian, Dick Draeger. Ten years after its start, the MRA had grown to include high school girls, adults and, was joined by another Olympian coach, Lou Lindsey. Over the next three decades the club won numerous gold, silver, and bronze medals for men's and women's Junior National Teams, then went on to claim numerous gold medals at State Championship races, the Masters Nationals and the FISA World Regatta. In 2004 the MRA moved into its $1.3 million boathouse, pictured above, just off Highway 101 in Greenbrae. The Marin Rowing Association membership is open to everyone interested in crew.
