A Babe in the Woods, Marin County
Here is a surprising statistic, 40 per cent of California land is covered by forests and half of that (about 20.7 million acres) is national forest land. The national forests of California account for 25 percent of all national forests in the United States. Our national forests supply 50 percent of the water in California. Is it any wonder that we hug our trees? The state has 129 species of native trees and another 1,000 have been introduced from all over the world, but most of these are limited to private gardens. One of the native species, the Coastal Redwood are the tallest living things in the world.
