Westfield San Francisco Centre, Downtown
San Francisco's newest shopping venue is the Westfield San Francisco Centre, located on the site of the city's 1896 beautiful beaux arts store, the Emporium. The Centre, which opened in 2006, retains the Emporium's sandstone and black cast iron facade and ornate glass dome (raised 58 feet). Attached to an 500,000-square-foot center, the Centre's 1 million square feet of new downtown retail makes it the largest urban mall west of the Mississippi River. Its 172 tenants are spread over a below-ground food concourse, five floors of shopping, three stories of office space, a nine-screen multiplex, and the largest Bloomingdale's outside of Manhattan.
