Land's End in the Sutro District
The northwest corner of San Francisco is a park area known as the Sutro Historic District, named after ex-mayor, millionaire and philanthropist, Adolph Sutro. The Spanish called this beautiful area Point Lobos for the many Lobos Marinos, sea wolves or sea lions as they're called today. In the 1880s a railroad carried San Franciscans out to this area for a nickel. It was here that generations of locals spent their weekends at attractions such as the Cliff House, Ocean Beach, Sutro Heights, and later Playland. Today you can still enjoy the city's wildest and rockiest coast, Land's End which is located here. It features a cliff-top, coastal trail which runs through wind-swept cypress trees. It follows Land's End Promontory and offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate, and 30-mile views up and down the coast.
