Banana Republic, Mill Valley
Banana Republic was founded in 1969 in Mill Valley by Mel and Patricia Ziegler as a safari-themed clothing company. Early stores were decorated with jeeps and camoflague netting to enhance the exotic feel. This store in downtown Mill Valley is located a just few blocks from the original location. In 1983 the company was acquired by another Bay Area clothier, The Gap, and was reinvented as a mainstream upscale clothing line. Chances are pretty good that right now in your closet there is clothing from one of San Francisco Bay Area's many clothing retailers including Banana Republic, The Gap, Levi's, Old Navy, Forth & Towne, Esprit, Bebe, Joe Boxer, North Face, or Gymboree.
