RMS Queen Mary 2, Golden Gate Bridge
History was made Sunday afternoon when the Queen Mary 2 became the largest vessel ever to sail under the Golden Gate Bridge. Thousands skipped the Super Bowl and turned out, on ship and on shore, to welcome her to San Francisco. The Queen Mary 2 arrived at 4 pm, low tide, and just barely slipped under the Bridge's span. The Queen Mary 2 with 17 passenger decks and a length of 1,132 feet is longer than the Transamerica Pyramid is high and much larger than a Nimitz class aircraft carrier. The ship is in the middle of an 81-day sail around the world.
