Skyline, Barbary Coast Trail
If you're in San Francisco with a free afternoon, you may want to consider walking the Barbary Coast Trail. The scenic 3.8-mile walk is mostly flat or gently sloping and takes you past a number of San Francisco's scenic and historic sites. The trail concludes with a 20-minute cable car ride. The Trail starts downtown and winds through Chinatown, the old Barbary Coast, North Beach, the Embarcadero, Fisherman's Wharf, and San Francisco's Maritime Park. A cable car will then carry you over Russian Hill and Nob Hill before returning you to your starting point near Union Square. There are many ways to navigate the Trail including guide books, a web site, guided tours, printed guides, and downloadable audio tours for your mp3 player.
