Hyde Street Pier, Maritime Historical Park
The San Francisco Maritime Historical Park manages the largest collection of historic ships by tonnage in the world. Among their fleet is the three-masted schooner, C.A. Thayer and ocean tug, Hercules. Strolling the pier and viewing the ships is free but the Park Service charges a nominal fee to board and explore the vessels. Along with the ships, the Hyde Street Pier offers nautically themed events such as instruction on boat building, tours, talks, and historic, nautical sing-alongs. Harbored next the Pier are the World War II vessels, SS Jeremiah O'Brien Liberty Ship and submarine, USS Pampanito.
