Bo-Gas, Downtown Bolinas
The village of Bolinas in Marin County is hard to find because of its isolated location and the fact the residents of the community tear down all road signs that guide strangers to the town. This paragon of a Northern California hippie community is located... well let's just say somewhere along the Pacific Coast. In keeping with the spirit of the village, the only gas station in the area is BoGas, operated by the local community land trust as part of its affordable-housing project. The single pump is only operated from 7 to 10 every morning. If you do find Bolinas, kind of a Bay Area Brigadoon, you'll find a lovely little town on a beautiful beach, a lagoon teeming with natural wildlife, pristine marshes, and Redwood forests. This small town is full of artists, writers, naturalists, and eccentrics whose goal it is to insure Bolinas remains small and hidden community.
