Foggy July Morning, Downtown
Sizzling hot days in San Francisco are not unheard of but they're very rare. Most homes in the city, even new ones, are built without air conditioning as the average maximum summer temperature is between 60 and 70 degrees with the minimum average between 50 and 55. The cooling fog has spared the Bay Area and the coastal range from the intense heat wave much of California has been experiencing recently. One example: on a day last week when San Francisco was experiencing its usual Mediterranean temperatures the city of Danville, thirty miles away, inland, recorded a high of 116 degrees.
