Abandoned Roadhouse, Highway 1
With all due respects to Route 66, when "getting your kicks" you can't beat California's Highway One. Highway One runs parallel to the Pacific Coast for 550 miles. Starting in San Juan Capistrano, where it is known as the Pacific Coast Highway, it weaves up through San Francisco, becoming the Shoreline Highway, before ending up north in the town of Leggett. Designated as State Scenic Highway it is famous for passing some of the most beautiful coastline in the world including Big Sur, Carmel, Monterey, Santa Cruz, Half Moon Bay, Bodega Bay, and Mendocino. In San Francisco the highway passes through Golden Gate Park and across the Golden Gate Bridge. If you have a few days to spare, why not rent a convertible and enjoy the ride of your life?
