Calfornia Street, Up to Nob Hill
There are 43 named hills in San Francisco. California Street here climbs up the east side of Nob Hill, one of the smaller hills in the city but one of the better known. Named after the British slang, Nabob, a rich man, the hill became a popular address only after the invention of the cable car. If you're feeling particularly fit you can participate in the 'California Mile', a race that begins at the bottom of California Street and ends at the top of Nob Hill, 376 feet up. Participants can choose to enter the foot, bicycle, or roller blade race to the top. Good luck, personally I get tired just driving my car up California Street.
