Vedanta Temple, Pacific Heights
The Vedanta Temple is a bizarre combination of architectural styles, and that's just the point. The building was designed by Joseph A. Leonard and Swami Trigundatitanada in 1905 to represent Russian Orthodox, Moorish Islam, Hindi, Queen Anne, and Colonial styles. The concept symbolizes that every religion is a just path to reaching one god. Kind of a nice idea in this day of religious intolerance, don't you think? Vedanta is the highest of the six schools of Hinduism and this Temple on Webster Street now serves as a monastery and the headquarters of The Vedanta Society of Northern California.
