VA Medical Center, Fort Miley
Unlike the image of most Veterans Administration hospitals, the 29-acre Fort Miley facility is located on one of the most breathtaking spots in San Francisco. The grounds of the huge, 27-building, Medical Center, were built in 1934 on a bluff overlooking the entrance to the Golden Gate and offers dramatic, sweeping views. The Medical Center was modernized and expanded in 1963, 1976, and most recently in 1992. It offers 244 beds including 124 acute care beds. Beside the hospital staff, San Francisco volunteers from 29 organizations donate their time to help the patients at the Medical Center.
