Base End Station, Above Muir Beach
Scattered along the coastline from Point Reyes to Half Moon Bay are dozens of abandoned base end stations. Built in 1940, these hooded concrete burrows served as the eyes for costal artillery, suppling data for calculating the range of enemy ships. Sightings gathered from two or more stations were triangulated to range the guns. Today these stations see far more action from amorous teenagers after dark then they ever did during World War II.
