Marin County, just north of the Golden Gate has 50 percent of its land devoted to farms or ranches. Surprising high for a county adjacent to such major city. The majority of these farms are considered small or mini-farms and are third- and fourth-generation family owned operations, including 159 livestock farms. Responding to the bay area's demand for healthier food most of these cattle farms focus on organic, grass-feeding, and sustainable farming. So the next time you're driving through Marin, heading to the Wine Country, consider stopping here and picking up some cheese for the trip.
