Temptation Relief, Michaelangelo Cafe
In North Beach it seems every block has at least one warm, welcoming, neighborhood cafe. The kind of place you can take your laptop, novel, or best friend and spend hours over a caffè corretto and maybe, like our friend above, give into temptation and have that second cannoli. In the 1880s an influx of Italian immigrants gave the area the nickname, 'Little Italy'. Five Italian-language newspapers were published here and the name of the main thoroughfare was changed from Montgomery Street to Columbus Avenue, the route of the Italian heritage celebration each October. Columbus is the only diagonal street in the north half of the city and stretches from the base of the Transamerica Pyramid to Fisherman's Wharf.
