Lefty O'Doul Bridge, China Basin
Squatting like a giant prehistoric monster in China Basin is the Lefty O'Doul Bridge. This massive trunnion bascule drawbridge was built by Joseph Strauss who engineered the Golden Gate Bridge. The bridge honors San Francisco's beloved, Francis Joseph "Lefty" O'Doul who won two National League batting titles and won two pennants coaching the San Francisco Seals and Oakland Oaks. Lefty was also known as the Father of Japanese baseball because of his frequent trips to Japan promoting and establishing the popularity of the game.
