Fishing, Land's End
One of my favorite things about summer in San Francisco is laying in bed on a cool, foggy night and hearing the foghorns moan. The foghorns are triggered automatically when visibility is less than five miles at the Golden Gate or two miles on the Bay. Each horn has a different pitch and marine navigational charts give the frequency, or signature, of each fog horn. In 1992 the Coast Guard decided to replace the foghorns with beeping electronic signals. San Franciscans immediately launched a protest and eventually the romantic foghorns were reactivated for all to enjoy.
