Victory, Union Square
Presiding over Union Square, Victory looks down from her 97-foot Corinthinian column upon the shoppers and visitors below. The square was named for the pro-Union rallies held here during the Civil War. The column commemorates Admiral Dewey's victory in Manila bay during the Spanish-American War. The statue itself was modeled after Mrs. Alma de Bretteville Spreckels, the wife of the sugar magnate and a famous San Francisco benefactor.
