Billboard, Market Street
San Francisco's main thoroughfare, Market Street cuts a 36-degree line across the city. It divides the prestigious, North of Market from the hipper, South of Market or SOMA. Market Street was first surveyed in 1847 and designed to be 120 feet wide although the population of San Francisco at that time was only 459 residents and the surveyed path was mostly sand dunes.
